Gebrüder Weiss offers direct groupage freight service to Turkmenistan

The international transport and logistics company is expanding its portfolio with a weekly groupage freight service from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Lauterach/Sofia, 16 April 2014. Since mid-April, Gebrüder Weiss has been offering a new direct groupage freight service from Sofia, Bulgaria, to the Turkmen capital Ashgabat. The regular run time amounts to ten working days. “The groupage freight service in this form is unique across Germany, Austria and Switzerland,” says Thomas Moser, Regional Manager South-East/CIS at Gebrüder Weiss. “We thus enable a direct land transport connection to the emerging markets in Central Asia.”

The integration of the branch in Sofia into the groupage freight service “GW pro.line“ allows all customers of Gebrüder Weiss to benefit from the new connection: daily direct transports from the branches in
Maria Lanzendorf (Austria) and Dunaharaszti (Hungary) to Sofia, where goods to the final destination Turkmenistan are consolidated.

Competent partner for transports to Central Asia and the Caucasus
The new transport service has developed from the integration of freight forwarder Far Freight into Gebrüder Weiss. The forwarding company has many years of experience in the handling of transports and projects in the Caucasus and other CIS states. “With the incorporation of Far Freight into the Gebrüder Weiss network, our customers benefit from well-established transport routes and an excellent country-specific know-how,” says Thomas Moser.

The continuous expansion of its competence in Central Asia is of great strategical importance to Gebrüder Weiss. Last summer, a new logistics facility was opened in the Georgian capital Tbilisi: the terminal comprises a handling and logistics area covering 10,500 m2 as well as 600 m2 of office space and is located only a few hundred metres from the airport. Here too, Gebrüder Weiss successfully introduced a weekly groupage freight service from Passau, Germany, to Tbilisi approximately a year ago.
