| | | Neuartiger Hochtemperaturofen ermöglicht Umstellung auf klimaneutrale Brennprozesse | | Auf dem Weg zu einer klimaneutralen Wirtschaft muss die Industrie CO2-Emissionen drastisch senken. Besonders Unternehmen mit großskaligen Brennprozessen, wie in der Keramikbranche oder in der Metallverarbeitung, stellt das vor enorme Herausforderungen. Forschende am Fraunhofer IKTS in Arnstadt/Thüringen haben dafür nun eine Lösung: ein neuartiger Wasserstoff-Hochtemperaturofen ermöglicht CO2-freie Brennprozesse bei gleichbleibender Qualität. Die Besonderheit an dem weltweit einzigartigen Brennofen ist, dass man ihn sowohl mit herkömmlichem Erdgas als auch mit Wasserstoff betreiben kann. Dies bietet Unternehmen die Möglichkeit, vergleichende Versuche für ihre konkreten Brenn- bzw. Sinterprozesse zu fahren und diese letztendlich auf klimafreundliche Wasserstofföfen umzustellen.

| Natural gas, biomethane, hydrogen: Each of these must have their water content removed before they can enter the supply network. This process previously involved the use of chemicals and high temperatures. A new technology developed by Fraunhofer researchers can now deliver this result using nanoporous membranes—rapidly, cleanly, and with minimal energy consumption. This allows renewable energy suppliers to cut costs and reduce climate-damaging emissions.
