KLOTZ Newsletter October 2015
Dear Readers,

This month’s Newsletter is packed with a colourful range of topics from virtually every area of KLOTZ AIS. Whoever said autumn was dull?

Take our proven PRO ARTIST Instrument Cables, for example, which are getting an update: the rugged design and solid electrical specs that have made them best-sellers are now joined by high-quality Neutrik jack connectors.

We’re delighted to introduce two new members to expand our team at the Vaterstetten office. Matthias Kieslich as Product Manager ProAVM, focusing on Broadcast, Film and Video, and Christina Maier, foreign-language secretary, joined us on 1 October 2015.

In this issue of the KLOTZ Newsletter Richard Cable, our alter ego in the world of social media, has some interesting facts about the current hot topic in the video industry. We’re often asked whether our HD SDI cables are 4K-ready. We measured and tested and checked, and: yes, they most certainly are!

As you can see, there’s plenty of news to report. For further information or more details, feel free to contact us by mail or telephone.

We hope you enjoy reading our Newsletter!

BIND IT & WRAP IT - NEW KLOTZ cable tie in cyan / black
It's a familiar scenario: spending good money on a cable, only to have it lying around loose in a case, getting more and more twisted and tangled during transport, and finally ending up as a hopeless jumble. What a pity to ruin good cables – because cables that are neatly rolled for storage have a far longer life.

With the new KLOTZ Cable Ties, every cable has its place. Neatly rolled, space-saving and protected, cables are ideally managed for travel from studio to stage and back. And as an added bonus, there's no need to waste time and trouble on untangling cables before a performance, saving you time and energy.

Secure and reliable - KLOTZ Cable Ties extend cable life.
Daisy chain network cables for effect pedals
As all guitarists know, pedal boards gobble up batteries. Mains-powered models are a far better solution. But the number of power packs increases in step with the number of effect pedals on the board – and so does the number of power-strip sockets needed. A suitable power adapter used with the KLOTZ DC9V-3 and DC9V-5 Daisy Chain Cables offer the ideal solution for effect pedals that are all 9-volt and identically poled.
The DC9V-3 and DC9V-5 are connector cables for pedal boards with three or five power connections respectively, manufactured to the familiar outstanding KLOTZ quality standards. Designed to save space on boards and power strips, they result in less cable clutter on the stage – and less danger of tripping. In line with the old adage that “less is more” (and safer too!).
New colleagues at KLOTZ
May we introduce ?

Ms. Christina Maier joined KLOTZ AIS as team assistent for the divisions Management, Purchasing and Sales in full-time. She is a certified foreign language correspondent and translator (Spanish and English with a special field in technology and economy).
Matthias Kieslich joined the ProAVM Division as Product Manager since 1 October 2015.
Born in Hamburg, Kieslich grew up in the Upper Bavarian town of Dorfen and studied sound engineering and music broadcasting in Detmold from 2009 to 2015, graduating with a Master’s in Music Production.

He has been an independent sound engineer since 2013 and completed a range of large-scale projects for the prestigious event technology company Neumann & Müller; these include open-air classical music events at Munich’s Odeonsplatz and opera productions in Oberammergau’s Festival Hall, as well as new vehicle presentations for major German automotive productions. After many collaborations with bands and ensembles throughout Munich and its environs, Matthias Kieslich founded his own music label and production company in 2015.

At KLOTZ AIS he will focus on broadcasting, film and video, with responsibility for product life cycles, and will hold internal and external product training courses.
KLOTZ know how
Today there’s a further instalment of our popular series, “Beginners’ and Advanced Cable Advice with Richard Cable”
Are your HD SDI cables 4K-, 6G- and 12G-ready?

4K resolution is already a huge topic, even though the new transmission standard – which goes beyond 3G-SDI – hasn’t even been adopted yet by the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). We also field regular enquiries about whether our proven HD SDI cables are 4K-ready. So we did a few calculations, and we’re proud to report that yes, they most certainly are!

You’ll find the calculations of maximum available lengths in the chart below. Use KLOTZ HD SDI Cables, and you’ll be fit for the future!

KLOTZ CATLink Four-Channel Multicore System
A network cable has four pairs of twisted wires, each with characteristic wave impedance of 100 ohms. Wouldn’t it be practical if the cable could be used to send four audio signals (analogue or AES/EBU), or even four DMX signals? Now this is possible – thanks to the new KLOTZ CATLink series.

These multicore systems comprise rugged aluminium housing (based on our popular StraightLINK Series) with integrated etherCON socket on one end and a 4-channel pigtail up to 1.5 m in length on the other.

The AES/EBU patch cable we use is our OT1000 – a highly flexible cable with low external diameter that masters the task with ease. Because clear channel labelling and colour-coding are a given with KLOTZ products, distinguishing the individual channels is simple.

Eight (!) different product models are available, spanning XLR 3p. female and male (AES/EBU), XLR 5p. female and male (DMX) and hybrids RJ45/etherCON for 10/100MB/s plus 2x XLR 3p. female and male (CAT and AES/EBU). They cover every connection and cabling need.

We always (!) recommend using a network conductor with overall shield (e.g. our RC5EE Cable) as a connection cable, to ensure the four separate channels share a common earth.

NEW KLOTZ Wallbox
Our new Wall Boxes are the ideal solution for fixed installations in locations such as civic centres, theatres and conference halls.

With removable front and side panels, they’re child’s play to handle. The side panels can be fitted with PG threaded glands if required and the rear panel has an all-round cable fixing collar with practical longitudinal slits, which can naturally be removed if cables are inserted directly through the rear panel.

The front panel can be individually designed to match your needs, right down to the labelling. Label strips, print or engraving – you decide!

The Wall Boxes are naturally designed for ruggedness and long life, with housing of 1.2-mm sheet steel and front panel of 3-mm aluminium. Four screw holes for wall mounting ensure adequate tolerance for drill holes and provide firm support. The interior has plenty of space for mounted cables without crushing or crowding. Our Wall Boxes are available in three sizes in matte black powder-coated finish from only EUR 110.

We will be happy to send you a quotation without obligation. Simply send us a sketch or drawing of your connection needs and the number of boxes you want.
