News from the TIB and their networks
The TIB was evaluated - with very good results

As part of the Leibniz Association, the TIB is evaluated every seven years by an independent group of experts. In February 2011, 20 information science experts analysed the strategy and vision of the library, its services, projects and cooperation partnerships for two days. A complete picture of the TIB, which needed to be assessed, was based on extensive records and discussions with the management and employees. This picture also served as the basis for an opinion from the Leibniz Association's senate. Result: Top marks for the TIB in almost all areas.

The Director of the TIB, Uwe Rosemann, has said: "I am delighted about the extremely positive evaluation and the recognition of our work. The result confirms the TIB’s future viability and the experts’ recommendations have paved the way for our work during the next few years. One key aspect will be the expansion of our research capacity; in addition, we intend to increase our activities on a European level through further collaborations. I am also particularly pleased that the panel of experts has described our staff as being highly motivated and competent and that it has also praised our excellent working atmosphere. It would not be possible for the library to achieve all that it has without its workforce."

Double Award for the TIB
Library Hi Tech-Preis und Highly Commended Paper Award 2011

From the left: Dr. Jan Brase, Awardee, Elke Greifeneder (Library Hi Tech) and Prof Michael Seadle (Humboldt University Berlin)

On the 26th September, Dr. Jan Brase was awarded the Library Hi Tech-Preis in Berlin. This prize recognises significant contributions to the development of technology for libraries. Dr. Brase accepted the prize for his work in the field of Digital Object Identifiers and in particular for the setting-up and expansion of DataCite. Dr. Brase is, in fact, managing director of the TIB’s DOI registration agency in Hannover and also of DataCite, the international consortium for the citing of research data (www.datacite.org).

The director, Uwe Rosemann, and the TIB’s legal adviser, Markus Brammer, were awarded the Highly Commended Paper Award 2011 for their contribution entitled ‘Development of document delivery by libraries in Germany since 2003’.
The article examines the current situation in full-text and document delivery services in Germany and gives a summary of the developments between 2003 and 2008, in particular against the background of changes in copyright law.

Every year, Emerald selects outstanding and commended specialised contributions as part of the ‘Literati Network Awards for Excellence’.
The contribution appeared in Interlending & Document Supply Vol. 38 Nr. 1, 2010. (DOI:10.1108/02641611011025334).
