TIB facilitates electronic full text delivery within Germany
Since the beginning of March 2010, the electronic full text delivery service by the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) has been significantly improved.

This means that the TIB is able to improve its deliveries from its unique stock of technical and scientific specialist and research information within Germany.
Thanks to the contract concluded by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (Kultusministerkonferenz KMK) with VG Wort, extensive electronic delivery even without DRM protection is again possible through the TIB.
The electronic delivery of journal articles is generally continued with DRM protection. Journal publishers waiving DRM protection can be found on our overview page for deliveries without DRM protection. The TIB can deliver full texts within 3 or 24 hours or 3 working days as required. Full texts can also be accessed immediately online by using the TIB's pay-per-view service.
For commercial customers, this special service since 1st March 2010 is combined with an increase to EUR12 of the legally required copyright royalty per full text delivered. The service costs EUR3 for individuals, EUR2 for employees and members of publicly financed institutions and EUR1 for school pupils, apprentices and students. The TIB is required to pay these amounts in full to VG Wort. Alternatively, the TIB allows full texts from numerous publications to be directly accessed with the often cheaper pay-per-view service.
The required specialist and research literature can be searched and ordered via GetInfo, the specialist portal for science and engineering.
GetInfo incorporates foreign research reports
The TIB holds a unique collection of foreign research reports.

Since the beginning of March 2010, some of these foreign research reports have also been searchable on GetInfo. Research reports are easy to find using the filter option "Document type - Report". The years 2000/2001 to 2008 are the first to have been incorporated into GetInfo and other years will follow. You can also order research reports not yet traceable in GetInfo via the "Order without searching" option.
DataCite Summer Meeting 2010
Making datasets visible and accessible

DataCite - the international consortium for data citations - invites together with the TIB to the first summer meeting from June 7th to 8th 2010 in Hannover, Germany.
The scope of this meeting is to allow data centers from all over the world to exchange experience and workflows concerning the handling of research data.
The following subjects shall be covered by international experts:
-Citability of research data
-Metadata for data
-Peer-review systems for data
-Best-practise and examples for data storing and access
-Criteria for trustworthiness of data centers
-Visualisation of datasets

More information could be found at www.datacite.org within a short time.
The DataCite Summer Meeting 2010 is hosted by the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB). The TIB is a member of DataCite.
TIB at the ICSTI Workshop in Paris
On 8th February 2010, a workshop on the theme "Interactive Publications and the Record of Science" took place as part of the Winter Meeting of the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI). To an audience of over 100 participants, 14 people from all corners of the world presented on current developments on the road to new interactive and innovative publication formats. Dr. Jan Brase presented a report entitled "Bridging the gap between data centres and publishers" on the work of DataCite, a new worldwide consortium of technical libraries which serves as a connection between data centres and publishers to enable the linking of academic articles with the research data on which they are based.

FIZ Technik and intelligent views develop visualisation tool for subject-specific terminology

The Fachinformationszentrum Technik (FIZ Technik) project TecNavigator is ushering in a new era in technical academic work with subject-specific terminology.
Together with project partner intelligent views (Darmstadt), the Frankfurt-based knowledge management specialists have developed a software program which makes it possible to represent subject-specific terms as they relate to their semantic relationships. In so doing, FIZ Technik has made it possible for its users to access the Technik und Management Thesaurus visually as well as purely hierarchically. With just one click, each term within the TecNavigator network structure can be accepted into the TecFinder search field developed by FIZ Technik. This means that a literature search of FIZ Technik database TEMA® Technik und Management can be launched straight from TecNavigator.

FIZ Technik sets up Shibboleth for TecFinder

FIZ Technik users can now log in through Shibboleth in order to search using TecFinder. This internationally established process works on the single sign on principle (SSO). A user only has to log in once via a so-called home service and can then access secure searches without needing to log in again. The provider of the service concerned must also use Shibboleth. If TecFinder recognises a valid Shibboleth authentication then the user is entitled to use TecFinder without giving any further access data.
This means that users are actively strengthening data protection because they do not have to transmit their sensitive access data to each service provider. In addition, Shibboleth relieves the user of the time-consuming task of repeatedly getting new access codes and of managing them.
