| New services in GetInfo |
TIB has once again made significant improvements to GetInfo - the TIB's portal for science and technology. Search options and hit listings have been greatly improved by re-indexing the TIB catalogue search. This means that you can check the relevance of search results more quickly and narrow down results more appropriately to your needs.
Overview of improvements:
•Expanded bibliographical details for each hit from TIB catalogue in the details view •Journals and conference contributions now easier to find with expanded title information •When TIB catalogue produces long lists of hits there is now more helpful information available for making your selection, e.g. abstracts, excerpts from reports •Over 275,000 links to the tables of contents from conference reports and other compilations in TIB stock •Improved searching for the content of individual conference volumes •Research report searches take into account all funding reference numbers and contract numbers •Over 700,000 American research reports in the TIB stock •New filter option: selection according to national licenses for stock held by TIB

Goportis and FIZ Karlsruhe jointly offer services for science
Goportis, the Leibniz Library Network for Research Information, and FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz-Institute for Information Infrastructure enter into a partnership agreement. In view of the changes and challenges in the information landscape, the four partners bundle their skills and forces. In order to provide innovative products and services, joint developments and processes are planned to support science in a more efficient and comprehensive way. [more]
Goportis takes a decisive step towards long-term archiving
Goportis - the Leibniz Library Network for Research Information with partners TIB, ZB MED and ZBW - has taken another step towards assuming responsibility for the long-term storage and availability of text and non-text materials. The association is developing concepts to secure stocks for the long-term at libraries involved whilst taking into account experiences so far and theoretical approaches. Deciding on a professional archiving system means that an important precondition for the long-term availability of digital stocks has now been met. [more]

DataCite Summer Meeting 2010 in Hannover
"Making Datasets Visible and Accessible" was the motto of the first DataCite Summer Meeting in Hannover from 7th- 8th June 2010.
Access to research data via the internet took centre stage at the conference which was organised by DataCite and the TIB. The internationality of the more than 100 participants was remarkable: library and information specialists, as well as researchers and representatives from publishers and data centres, had travelled from 12 countries. The highly-distinguished speakers and lectures/talks given by, amongst others, the OECD, Harvard University and Microsoft Research emphasised the international significance of this first conference on the theme of research data.
You will find all presentations and discussions at www.datacite.org within a short time. Download times may be lengthy. Please have patience.
Particle physics: important step towards open access
Another important step has been taken in the direction of open access for particle physics. At a workshop held at the TIB, university libraries, academics and the German Research Association met with the German SCOAP3 partners consisting of TIB, Max Planck Society and Helmholtz Association. The aim of the international consortium SCOAP3 (Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics) is to turn the leading high-energy physics journals into golden road open access journals. Central discussion points in the workshop were the quality criteria for academic journals, the funding model and funding in Germany as well as possible consortium conditions. Work on these points will now be extended and continued on a national and international level.
The TIB is coordinating the expansion of the consortium for universities and other facilities in Germany. This includes the development of a business model for these institutions.
You will find further information on SCOAP3 at www.scoap3.org
