Indian students in Germany at an all-time high

The number of Indian students in Germany has more than doubled in the past 5 years. From 28,905 in 2020 it has gone up to 59,419. Out of these 41,048 i.e. 69% are male students and 18,371 i.e. 31% are females. 
This number refers only to the students pursuing Bachelors, Masters & PhDs. Those going to Germany for internships, short-term research, exchanges etc. are over and above this number.  
 
These students have chosen the following subjects for their higher education: 
Engineering incl. Biology-related fields - 60%
Social Sciences/Economics/Management - 21%
Mathematics/Natural Sciences - 18%
Other (Sports/Arts/German Studies etc.) - 6%
 
While these are the trends for Indian students, the numbers of students from the entire subcontinent are also following the same upward trend from 2020 to 2025: 
Bangladesh - 8,076 from 5,177
Bhutan - 42 from 26
Nepal - 2,353 from 2,157
Sri Lanka - 1,514 from 634

The DAAD Young Ambassador Programme invites motivated students or young professionals who have studied or carried out research at a university or research institute in Germany (or are still doing that!) to share their experiences and inspire others to explore study and research opportunities in Germany.  
  
You can apply if you  
● Are a national of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal or Sri Lanka 
● Have studied or are currently studying/researching in Germany 
● Are below 32 years of age 
● Are enthusiastic about promoting German higher education via presentations or events 
● Are willing and able to attend the Young Ambassadors Training Workshop which will take place online in October 2025
