Eye Safety First:
Far-field analysis of VCSEL arrays

To guarantee eye safety in new applications like Automotive LIDAR, the spatial radiation properties of the entire VCSEL arrays must be measured reliably. In the lab this is typically done with a high-precision goniometer e.g. LGS 350 combined with a high-end spectrometer with traceable calibration. In production environments, one-shot 2D measurement solutions with a conoscope or transmission screen can adequately replace the goniometer.

New webinar: By following the calculation and measurement guidelines of the international laser safety norm IEC60825-1, we summarized the most important facts about VCSEL safety in a presentation (see link below):

- How to classify a laser
- Identify critical parameters
- Importance of an absolute error budget
- How to mitigate the effect on human tissue

Near-field analysis of VCSEL arrays
The VCSEL Testing System based on the VTC 4000 camera is the perfect solution for single emitter characterization of VCSEL arrays. The system consists of the new VTC 4000 and a microscope optics. It can simultaneously determine the position as well as the radiant power of single emitters on a VCSEL array in one single-shot camera measurement. As a result, the system allows very fast and easy detection of defect emitters on the VCSEL array. The VTC 4000 is calibrated traceable to the PTB (National Institute of Germany), enabling the absolute measurement of radiant power with highest accuracy and precise error budget analysis.

New Calibration Standards in the UV A/B/C Range

Đenan Konjhodžić, product manager at Instrument Systems, presents the new calibration concept for UV-LED standards. He gives a brief summary of the market trends for UV-LEDs and introduces then the new UV LED calibration standards of the ACS series. Of particular interest is the innovative calibration concept for radiant flux.
